2017 Engineering Discovery Week!
Our 3rd Annual Engineering Discovery Week, featuring the Nerdy Derby, was a huge success! All Shepardson STARS were able to assemble and decorate derby cars and them race them. We learned about potential and kinetic energy and had a fun-tastic time during the whole process! Thank you to the dozens of volunteers and donors who helped make the event possible. Special thanks to the OtterCares Foundation and OtterBox employees for all the volunteer hours, to Mr. Greg Hewell for donating wood and cutting car bodies, and to the Wilhelm and Monks families for helping us with supplies to decorate our derby cars. And a huge thank you to the Loveland Creatorspace for letting us borrow the Nerdy Derby track for the week – the track made the event EXTRA special! Make sure to ask your children about Engineering Discovery Week and the Nerdy Derby and see if they can tell you about kinetic and potential energy!
2016 Engineering Discovery Week!
The 2nd Annual Engineering Discovery Week was held at Shepardson STEM Elementary on February 22 - February 25, 2016. Steve Hicks and Hicks Electronic Design designed a custom "Light to Sound Circuit Kit" and all of our Kindergarten through 5th grade students had the opportunity to use a soldering iron and other tools to complete and test their own circuit during the week. The Media Center was buzzing, literally and figuratively. We express our appreciation to Hicks Electronic design for their generous donation of the Light to Sound Circuit kits and for making the 2nd Annual Engineering Discovery Week a possibility! We also thank a wonderful group of volunteers - parents and grandparents, CSU students, Otterbox employees, Shepardson and PDS staff, and other community members, for their generous gift of time all during the week. This photo gallery represents a week filled with exciting STEM learning and collaboration between Shepardson STEM, our students, and the community partners. Thanks you to everyone who made Engineering Discovery Week a STEMtastic event!
2015 Engineering Discovery Week!
The inaugural Engineering Discovery Week was held at Shepardson STEM Elementary on April 24 - April 30, 2015. All students in Grades K-5 had the opportunity to learn about circuits and complete a project using LEDs, wires, resistors, batteries - a "blinky box," as the first graders dubbed the project. Each student had the opportunity to use a soldering iron and participate in an engaging hands-on experience. Local engineer Tom Connor and manager of My Blue Shed generously donated his time and talents to make Engineering Discovery Week at Shepardson possible. Our photo gallery represents a week filled with fun and STEM learning.
