2022 Shepardson STEM Science and Engineering Fair
The Annual Shepardson Science and Engineering Fair was held on Monday and Tuesday, March 7 and 8, 2022. We were SO excited to be able to hold the Science and Engineering Fair this year after having to miss the 2021 fair due to COVID restrictions. In a new spin, this year ALL 5th Graders participated in the Fair. They completed projects as teams and combined their Science and Engineering Fair participation with a Problem-based Learning (PBL) unit. Congratulations to all the students who participated and thanks to their parents for supporting them throughout the science fair process. Thanks to the many judges who spent the day talking with the students and reviewing their projects. Thanks also to everyone who volunteered to help with the Science Fair and to the Shepardson staff for their support.
Once again, the Poudre School District Science and Engineering Fair was cancelled, so we will not be sending 4th and 5th Graders on to a district level fair. Troy Schauerhamer loves the science so much that he completed both an individual project for the fair and well as a 5th grade team project. We are so proud of Troy - his project was the top scoring project for the whole school! Congratulations, Troy!

The qualifiers from Shepardson who would have represented Shepardson would have been Tristan Ritchie, Finley Epling, and Braydin McCormick. Gavin H. - 1st Place
Gavin's wrote a computer program to teach kindergarteners sums that equal 1: _+_=10. He then tested how much the students' proficiency improved before and after using the program.

Josh S. - 2nd Place
Josh's project showed the effects of different coarseness of sediment on liquefication. This applies to structures such as houses or buildings in an earthquake. The more liquid the soil becomes, the more damage can occur.

Max's project showed the results of force on different types of football helmets.
